Weird-looking birds
A couple of weeks ago, we found these birds in our front yard. They have curved beaks that they stick into the grass or dirt and wiggle around. The tip of the beak is black. I think they’re white ibis.

I love living in a tropical area.

They look like white ibis to me, too — every once in a while, when the herons are not in their nests, I see one or two in the heron trees.
Are they a type of ‘crane’? Watever they are, they beautiful & you captured them well.
I think they are an ibis. We have them here.
What are they eating?
Oh! Ooh! They are so beautiful!

I remember reading about a scarlet ibis, when I was a little girl. And I always wanted to see an ibis! Thank you for sharing these with me in photos!
You live in a beautiful part of the country!
HUGS!!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mother’s in your life! I’m so glad your Mom birth-ed you!!!
put out enough shrimps and watch’em turn pink
They are common to the Everglades areas in Florida
Just another beautiful bonus from this new, glorious life of yours!
Whoa neat. I love watching when I see unusual birds in my neighborhood.
I think you’re right.
cool birds and i bet they are fun to watch.
They have spotted intermixed Pink and white Ibis because the two species can intermix.
Since they are not flying you can’t spot the black on their wings when they have their wings folded.
They are like dancers.
So lovely!
It is exceptional to have such wonderful birds in the back yard !!!! Those birds normally love the marshes or the sea shore .
I am glad you survived to the video !!!
;… and fortunately ! Poor Alicia
I have to take care !!

At first I thought these might be egrets, which I seem to remember sort of look like that, but you’re probably right. Cattle egrets had set up shop in Hawai’i the last time I was there, and they kind of waddle around nosing in the grass too.
that’s awesome! i wish there were exotic birds like that up here. we only have vultures in some of the more remote towns. those things are scary.
@l0311879l - Don’t you have grackles and seagulls? Seems like every city has those. And pigeons, of course. Not very exotic, though.
@Roadkill_Spatula - yeah, there’s only so many pics of pigeons and seagulls that one can take. although, i have yet to see a grackle. there are monk parakeets here too, but those buggers are too fast to take pictures of.
Have never seen one myself.
It will be tropical here tomorrow but maybe flurries tonight.
I have seen pictures of these birds, and I do believe they are called the white ibis. How cool that they were actually in your yard!
