Second
He lies elsewhere in the ground
The stone above him
does not mention her
No casual visitor will know
of her happiest nine years
that were some of his best

this is well said, and heartfelt, Tim. well written.
When I see tombstones I wonder about many things , their family and loves...
@plantinthewindow - @seedsower - I was thinking about my dad's second wife. Dad is buried with Mom in Illinois, and Jan still lives in Arkansas where Dad died.
Chilling... and so sad! You did a wonderful job of packing a huge story with unasked questions into a few lines.
Sad
...
Very poignant, Tim--& of course I knew who.
I guessed he'd be your Dad. Heartfelt and well put.
Very powerful. It could apply to lots of situations. Tombstone-speak is proper, adulatory, but close-lipped. It'd be odd if it weren't, and there are examples.
But my favorite is still the marker with 'Well *this* sucks!' engraved on it.
Whatta happy poem.
Oh... poignant... peace always
Sweet but sad. I knew who it was about before I checked the comments.
